Tiger Cubs Visit Jungle Eyes!

These brave young scouts of America had a blast while visiting us. They posed in front of Martha our Tigress & were thrilled by our Hands-On Reptile exhibit!

Thank you Linda Smith for having your field trip with us!

Commentary from the Tiger Cubs & Linda:
A BIG thank you! We had a great time on Saturday. We are a Tiger Den from The Woodlands, TX. We are all in first grade. We really had a great time visiting with you and Jungle Jim. The snakes were Way cool!. Martha was so cute! The bunnies were soft.

Linda's Commentary:
The boys all took their snake skins in for show and tell. Of course that was a big hit. I have told many other scout leaders about you and they will probably be contacting you in the near future. Once again, thanks and we look forward to coming back again next year!

Pack 161 at Jungle Eyes

These brave kids really had fun holding Goliath the famous Burmese Python & meeting the rest of The Jungle Eyes Pride! The petting zoo critters enjoyed getting fed by them too.

Pack Leader Dory Gwaltney's Commentary:
All of the boys and parents had a wonderful time on our visit to Jungle Eyes Refuge. I know everyone was thrilled to see all of animals. What amazed most everyone was how Jungle Jim is able to actually be very involved physically with the animals. The petting zoo was a great hit, the kids really get a kick out of feeding the animals. And as always the big snakes are also a big hit. The kids reactions were priceless when they saw those large snakes coming at them.

Check out their Cubmaster "Shelli Hickson"! These kids are lucky to have such a trooper for a leader!

Shawna Scott, Asst. Cubmaster; Lynnette Sparks, Tiger Den Leader; Velma Yount (scout mom), and Terry Goodlander (scout dad) enjoyed the day too!

Commentary by Shelli W. Hickson, Cubmaster:
As part of our work towards our Conservation Award, Pack 1161's Bear Den 2 visited Jungle Eyes Refuge. Ms. Marsha and Jungle Jim taught us just what it takes to run a refuge and also how good it feels to be making such a difference in these animals lives. They also talked to us about having wild animals as pets and why it isn't a very good idea. We had a great time seeing all of the big cats and hearing about how they came to live at Jungle Eyes. To top it all off, Jungle Jim brought out one of his big snakes, a python by the name of Goliath! Thanks Marsha and Jim for having us out, helping us with our work, and teaching us so much! We look forward to bringing other dens out to Jungle Eyes!!

We Commend Mark Cox, (middle guy in blue on the right) Co-ordinator & Overseer of this volunteer project. An Eagle Scout Of America showing true leadership !

Commentary by Mark Cox:
As a service project of any kind this is as easy as it gets. I chose this for my project for a multitude of reasons. The first and probably most is my personal devotion (or obsession) with large cats of all kinds. Also upon meeting the Milsoms and touring their facility I discovered that they are indeed well versed in the care taking of these cats and have the land to do it. The only thing I found they lacked was simple manpower. Upon seeing what I believed had great potential I extended every effort I had to aiding them. The Milsoms are very easy to work for or with which makes all projects slide through without snags or disagreements. What I saw and found to be true is that if you have even the slightest bit of enthusiasm you could easily make an idea reality.

San Jacinto Girl Scout Troop # 10433
with Family & Friends visit Jungle Eyes!

This group started out very quiet & reserved and then they met our guests in the "Reptile House" and went WILD!!! Even ExxonMobil volunteer's Maury Cucci & Robert Smith along with troop leader, Linda Hinchley got in on the action by holding the Albino Burmese Python's. They got to take a fresh snake shed back with them to split up as a CQQL souvenir. After the tour it was lunch time and non-stop chitter-chatter about all that they had seen, touched & learned about.

We enjoy seeing groups like this one light up and thoroughly enjoy themselves. We look forwarded to their return and meeting more of their friends & family's!

Pack 777
Enjoying Reptiles, Petting Zoo critters,
Big Cats & more!

We had a ton of fun with this group! They experienced all of the animals here with great interest & were eager to learn about them. Daniel Lucas is preparing to become an Eagle Scout and may organize & develop one of our projects for the animals. The leader's Ward Wheeler & Jeffrey Greer are both amazing men and super roll-models for these young scouts.

Leader Commentary:
On behalf of Pack 777, I would like to extend our gratitude for having us out to visit on June 5, 2004. We all enjoyed the visit immensely, and learned quite a bit about the animals you have there. Not only were the tigers, panthers, wolves and lions fascinating, but also the pigs, birds, wallabies and barnyard animals were a treat for many of these boys, since they are city boys and have never seen anything like them. I want to especially thank you for the opportunity to see and handle the snakes and monitor lizards. I know that most of the boys have no real fear of them, and the chance to see and handle the Burmese python was a special event that they will always remember. I'm also glad they had the opportunity to see the poisonous snakes in a safe environment, so that they could learn what these reptiles look like without the potential that they would come to harm. We are looking forward to the next opportunity we have to visit.
Yours in Scouting,
Ward O. Wheeler

Girl Scout Troop # 8657

Kim Holland & her Girl Scout Troop along with their parents enjoyed meeting The Jungle Eyes Pride on a beautiful sunny day! WOW, it seems everyone wants their picture with Goliath the 14 foot Burmese Python. He is one of our star attractions!

Troop Leader Kim Holland's Commentary:
Not sure where to start the day and the animals were so overwhelming the girl’s were actually quiet on the way home. The first thing my daughter said was that she wanted to come back again. I really think they have an appreciation for all you do for the animals and the work involved to properly care for some of these exotic animals. Personally, I liked Tom the turkey who followed us around throughout the entire tour. All the kids were a little apprehensive at the beginning with Tom but by the end of the tour they had a new friend. Thanks again, for the wonderful day, hospitality and learning experience. We definitely will be back.

Troop Leader Commentary:
The girls (and the moms) have not stopped talking about the visit. Everyone was so impressed with how close they could get to these beautiful, wild animals and observe them. Caesar was a favorite as were the panthers and, of course, holding the snakes! I am spreading the word amoung my fellow Scout leaders so you should be getting lots of calls. thanks for a wonderful experience. Debbie Parks

Girl Scout Troops # 8492 & # 8415
posing with Bo the Pony!

Troop Leader Commentary:
Dear Marsha,
I have been meaning to drop you a note since Sunday.....we had such a great visit!! You and Jim have such a wonderful facility -- all of the animals are so obviously happy and well-cared for! What a wonderful, happy ending for those animals whose lives started out so miserable! The girls thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and I'm sure they learned a lot as well. You were both interesting, knowledgeable, and gave them all a good lesson in animal safety and conservation. What a thrill to see animals like that up so close and even to hold a snake so large! They also enjoyed the craft -- what a perfect project for the girls! It really was just a perfect day -- we will definitely be back; if not as a troop, for a birthday party....or something!! Thanks again so much and I am going to check out the web site! Sally

The girls enjoyed the Big Kitties, Wolves, smaller exotics, Bambi the fawn, petting zoo critters and of course our giant Burmese Python "Goliath". Velvet Art Crafts & Quizzes with prizes were a favorite activity as well. LQQK at the photos, even Mom's enjoyed the crafts!

The Jungle Eyes Pride thanks them for their generous donations of feed & funds. We thoroughly enjoyed having the girls, their troop leaders and parents here and look forward to their return visit in the near future.

Commentary by Ron McWhorter:
Just a note to say "thank you" for a great time. The Scouts from Troop 401 learned a lot and couldn't have had more fun. The rest of the day and on the way home the next day all we heard were comments about the things they saw at the refuge. We'll definitely spread the word about y'all and the help you need. Good luck!
